ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to determine the heavy metals concentration in varieties of beans samples obtained from Oba-Market, Ring-Road in Edo State Nigeria. The objective was mainly to determine the level of heavy metals in the varieties of beans samples that are mainly exported and also compare with the permissible limits specified by WHO/FAO standards. Analysis of the Beans samples showed that the values of heavy metals range from 0.003-0.010mg/kg for Pb, 0.30 0.46mg/kg) for Mn, 0.003-0.01mg/kg for Cu and 0.48-0.70mg/kg for Zn by the use of AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) method. Statistical analysis using a one-way ANOVA showed that there was no statistical significance of heavy metals among the several Beans samples. Additionally, the values obtained were below the permissible limits of heavy metals using the WHO/FAO standards. The results showed that the beans samples consumed within Benin is safe for export.
