The goal of this study was to determine the heavy metals present in various soft drinks and their effects on human health. These were carried out by first digesting the soft drinks to expose any level of heavy metal present before AAS analysis. It was found out that the drinks contained some heavy metals Chromium, Copper, Zinc, and Lead excluding Cadmium. The values gotten were within the range 0.08 -0.13 mg/l for chromium, 0.01 -0.03 mg/l for copper, 0.24 -1.40 mg/l for zinc, and 0.01 mg/l for lead. When compared to SON and WHO standards for drinks it was observed that chromium was above range for all soft drinks while copper, zinc and lead were within the permissible range. This suggests that soft drinks may be slightly contaminated with heavy metals and as such, quality control is recommended from the selection of raw materials to the final production.
