ABSTRACT
Sedimentological facies analysis of 210ft length of core, covering (6596.58-5802) m from well Xwas carried out using 36 slabbed core samples with the purpose of establishing the textural characterisation of sediments from the various lithologic units and to determine the environment of deposition. Based on lithology, fourteen (14) lithofacies units were established within the cored interval. They are: Cross bedded coarse-gravelly sandstone(SmX),cross-bedded medium-fine sandstone(ScX), massive–parallel laminated sideritic mudstone(MPs), current rippled muddy heterolith(HmC), bioturbated muddy heterolith(HmB), bioturbated sandy heterolith(HsB), planar/ parallel laminated sandstone(SP), massive-parallel laminated mudstone(MP), fossiliferous sandstone(SF), fossiliferous mudstone(MF), current rippled sandy heterolith(HsC), current rippled sandstone(SC), planar-parallel laminated muddy heterolith(HmP), fossiliferous sandstone(cemented).Five lithofacies associations were established: Fluvial channel sandstone, tidal channel sandstone, marine shale, bioturbated channel heteroliths, and stratified channel heteroliths. Three groups of deposits were established. They include: sandstone, mudstone and heterolithic deposits. Biostratigraphical data should always be merged with sedimentological data for paleoenvironmental studies. Gamma Ray Log should be provided to assist core to log interjection .Petrophysical core analytical data should be supplied to aid the interjection with Sedimentological facies study and further improvements should be made on the sedlog software, to enhance flexibility.
