ABSTRACT
In this project, Engineering Survey was conducted to help us determine the curve setting out of the UNIVERSITY OF BENIN MAIN GATE TO AUDITORIUM ROAD. Horizontal curves are an essential element in the geometric design of highways, providing a gradual transition between two tangent strips of roadway, allowing a vehicle to negotiate a turn at a gradual rate rather than a sharp cut. The design of the curve is dependent on the intended design speed for the roadway, as well as other factors including drainage and friction. There are several methods of setting out simple circular curves by linear methods and by the use of chain and tape, including offsets from the long chord, successive bisection of arcs, offsets from the tangents, and offsets from chords produced. The determination of the radius of curvature of the horizontal curve can be done by various methods, including the deflection angle method.
