ABSTRACT

The study investigated the Determinant of Students' Choice and Interest in Textile/Fashion design in Public Universities in Edo State and focused on aims to understand factors such as economic versatility, personal interests, parental motivations, self-employment options, and industry exposure that influence students' decisions to pursue these programs. The research highlighted challenges such as financial concerns, perceived difficulty of the programs, and the need for industry collaboration to enhance students' experiences.

The study employs a survey research design. The population of the study comprised of the entire students in the Public Universities of Edo State, Nigeria and 40 students which represent 0.1% of the total population were selected as the sample size. Questionnaire-based data collection method was used to gather insights from Uniben undergraduates on their attitudes and perceptions towards Textile/Fashion designing. Data analysis involves using percentages, means, and standard deviations to interpret responses.

The findings in the project work shed light on the multifaceted factors influencing students' interest and choice in Textile/Fashion design programs, emphasizing the importance of understanding students' motivations, perceptions, and experiences in shaping educational outcomes in this field. Based on the findings, recommendations are proposed to address the challenges identified, including enhancing financial aid, improving curriculum quality, fostering industry partnerships, and providing support systems to create a conducive learning environment for students interested in Textile/Fashion design programs.
