ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to determine the poor academic performance of students in accounting in Ondo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study which are to what extent does students interest influence poor academic performance of accounting students in secondary school in Ondo State? To what extent does peer pressure factors affect academic performance of accounting students in secondary school in Ondo State? To what extent does parental factors influence poor academic performance of accounting students in secondary school in Ondo State? To what extent does teaching method influence poor academic performance of students in accounting in Ondo State?

The population of the study comprise of five thousand nine hundred and thirty (5,930) students in nineteen (19) senior Secondary schools in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

From the study the following were the finding it was seen that students like to answer questions in accounting class. It was seen that the students feel happy when it comes to working on accounting assignment, It was revealed that students have low interest in accounting. It was recommended that student should not allow peer pressure to influence their academic performance negatively, students should show interest in the study of accounting.
