This study assessed the determinants of final year students research area in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to; describe the socioeconomic characteristics of the students in the study area, identify their areas of research interest, determine the motivating factors for their choice of research topic in agriculture, examine final year students willingness to carry our research in agriculture, Identify their sources of information and identify the constraints to final year students choice of research area in agriculture.
A two stage sampling procedure was adopted for the simple random sampling of 98 respondents for the study. Primary data were collected through the use of structured questionnaire designed in line with the specific objectives of the study. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as: frequency count, simple percentages and mean scores,as well as inferential statistics such as Pearson Product Moment Correlation(PPMC).
