DESIGNING WORKSTATION SPACE FOR EFFECTIVE LEARNING IN THE GRAPHIC DESIGN AND COMMUNICATION STUDIO

ABSTRACT

The efficacy of the learning process is significantly influenced by the environment in which it takes place, particularly when fostering the twin virtues of creativity and critical thinking. A studio, serving as the quintessential workspace for artists, becomes a pivotal hub for the cultivation of these virtues. Unfortunately, the Graphic Design Studios within the Graphic Section of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Benin presently lacks essential workstation design space for the facilitation of effective Graphic Design studies and delivery.In light of this deficiency, the graduating class of 2019/2020 has conscientiously undertaken the responsibility to address this challenge head-on. The objective is to initiate a comprehensive redesigning of the studio, thereby transforming it into a more conducive and enriched learning environment. The envisioned outcome of this initiative is a studio that not only meets the immediate needs of the current students but also serves as an inspirational and innovative space for future graphic design enthusiasts within the Department. By imbuing the studio with these essential facilities, the aim is to spark and nurture creativity, fostering an environment where artistic expression and critical thinking can thrive seamlessly.
