ABSTRACT

This project aimed to investigate the production of bamboo composite boards using coir fiber as reinforcement, and epoxy as a binding agent. The scope of the study encompassed the optimization of process parameters, evaluation of mechanical properties, and assessment of the feasibility of bamboo composite boards for various applications. The methodology involved the preparation of bamboo fibers, delignification using NaOH, formulation of binding agent with epoxy, fabrication of composite boards, and testing of mechanical properties through tensile testing and other relevant analyses. The achievement of the project included the successful production of bamboo composite boards with enhanced mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and suitability for applications in furniture, construction, and interior design. The optimization of process parameters and binder formulation led to improvements in modulus of elasticity, tensile stress, thickness swelling, and water absorption properties of the composite boards. These findings underscore the potential of bamboo composite boards as sustainable alternatives to traditional wood-based materials, contributing to the development of eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable materials in various industries.
