ABSTRACT

In today’s electronics industry, power supply units with high power density are very important. In the past, linear power supplies where the major kind of power supplies used, however as a result of their low efficiency, Switch Mode Power Supply was introduced. Switch Mode Power Supplies have various topologies such as the fly-back, buck, boost and buck-boost converters. However in this study we make use of the buck and boost converter which is designed to step down and step up voltage respectively. This study aims at designing an experimental board which contains a buck and boost converter to charge two laptop and phones respectively. The LT1680 and LM2678 IC’s serves as the bases for the boost and buck converter design respectively, and the result obtained compares favorable with the theoretical calculations.
