ABSTRACT

Due to the escalating demand for sustainable energy in Nigeria, this study aims to address the inefficiencies of conventional power generation methods and their environmental impacts. Focused on the Ojirami dam site, in the Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State, Nigeria, the goal is to design and perform CFD analysis of a Micro-Pelton turbine to harness the dam’s hydroelectric potential. This project is in alignment with the country's push for renewable energy sources, seeking to transition from traditional power systems to local, sustainable grids. Site-specific data of Ojirami dam was obtained from literature for the design of a CAD Pelton turbine model using SolidWorks software. The methodology prioritized computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations in SolidWorks to explore flow patterns and pressure distributions to optimize turbine design for improved efficiency. The CFD simulations provided valuable insights into flow dynamics, pressure distributions, and overall turbine performance. These analyses were instrumental in optimizing the turbine's design to enhance its efficiency within the hydroelectric system. This study significantly contributes to Pelton turbine technology, underscoring its potential for sustainable energy generation.
