ABSTRACT

This study aims to design and simulate a smart hybrid inverter capable of efficiently harnessing power from multiple sources operating in parallel. The specific objectives include the design of the smart hybrid inverter, simulation, and measurement of a pure sine wave signal, and a comparative analysis between the outputs of the smart hybrid inverter and a conventional inverter. The methodology involves the design phase, where components and control systems are selected for both the smart hybrid and conventional inverters. Simulations of the pure sine wave signal are conducted using appropriate tools, with a focus on analyzing the results for both inverter types. The comparative analysis assesses the efficiency and performance of the smart hybrid inverter against the conventional inverter. Following an in-depth analysis, the smart hybrid inverter, integrating solar and wind sources, demonstrated exceptional stability with minimal currents, well-balanced voltages, and a controlled starting point. Key metrics, including a fundamental frequency of 50 Hz, a magnitude of 317.4 units, and a remarkably low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of 3.96%, signify a clean sine wave output suitable for diverse applications. In contrast, the conventional inverter displayed balanced currents and efficient performance but exhibited a higher THD of 151.88%, indicating a less clean output waveform. The comparative assessment underscores the smart hybrid inverter's superiority in generating a stable, clean output, positioning it as a favorable choice for applications emphasizing high-quality power. Steady-state voltages, non-linear element behavior, and FFT analysis results further affirm the distinctive advantages of the smart hybrid inverter, solidifying its suitability in scenarios demanding optimal performance and minimal harmonic content.
