ABSTRACT
The rate of demand and usage of power nowadays has drastically increased and as a result of this, many new discoveries, technologies and methodologies are being found and implemented to supplement inadequate power supply. This project deals with the design and manufacture of portable electric generation device through the use of wind power.
The process of generation of this power is when the device is mounted on a car and the car is in motion, enormous air is induced to flow in opposite direction which will lead to opposite reaction and can be converted into power by placing the direct current (DC) motor fan in the enormous air medium that will provide a rotary motion and as a result of this motion, current and voltage are induced through the DC motor and the energy generated can be stored in a rechargeable car battery of 12V, 50Amps which can be converted into an alternating current (AC) by means of an inverter. During this experiment, the numbers of DC motor fan used is twelve consisting of seven fan blades each and the minimum speed of car required for the device to generate electric current and voltage is 30km/hr, the current and voltage generated are 1.5A and 5V respectively.
The weight of this wind power device is 4.8kg and the materials for making this device includes brushless DC motor, DC fan blades, PVC plastic, galvanised sheet, bolts and nuts, wire gauze, inverter and battery.
The advantages of this power generating method are multi-dimensional as a result of its sustainability, economic development, and affordability, generation of green energy that produces no adverse environmental effect such air pollution, noise pollution or greenhouse gas. The wind used in generating energy is free, can be captured effectively and it is inexhaustible.
The limitations of this system can be fluctuation of wind and also no electric energy will be generated when the wind is not blowing.
