ABSTRACT

Transformer vandalism is becoming an alarming issue in the community. The Power sector is experiencing commercial losses, in which the vandalism or theft of transformer parts, such as core (copper winding) are creating enormous financial losses for both electricity department and the people of the community. Hence it is a challenging task to eradicate above stated unlawful activity through available technology.

This project proposes design of a monitoring system that can be able to detect the presence of a vandal near the transformer, raise the alarm, and send a message/camera footage to the control unit in designated areas for response. The monitoring system will be a combination of Arduino hardware with Integrated Development Environment (IDE) program, Passive Infrared sensor (PIR), and global service mobile (GSM) for mobile communications. Whenever micro-controller receives an error or return signal from sensors, it is programmed such that it initiates GSM modem. GSM inherently consist of a SIM card in which we will assign a text message which is to be sent to concerned mobile numbers.

The expected result would prove that the method will definitely be efficient in detecting the presence of a vandal near the transformer
