ABSTRACT
The advent of information and communication technologies (ICT) has enhanced and improved the efficiency and reliability of virtually every sector of human endeavour. Conversely, it has also made more glaring the inherent problems in the manual methods of carrying out data management and processing including the bad user experience, inaccessibility, inefficiency, slowness and difficulty of data retrieval, limited capability for processing, unreliability, possibility of data loss to due to accident or natural disaster, possibility of errors, misinterpretation of results, human limitations, high cost e.tc. Like every other organisation, educational institutions has administrative and content-management needs which require the processing of data and generating of reports. Thus, it is important to bring the various benefits of a comprehensive and well-tested ICT-based solution to the educational sector. In this work, a comprehensive cloud-based school management website was developed to solve the complex and varied information management needs of a typical educational institution. The software was developed using popular frameworks, React and NextJS for its frontend and makes use of the enterprise-grade backend-as-a-service (BaaS) software, Firebase for its backend. The proposed methodology, design process, expected results, project timeline and cost analysis are also discussed. The developed software was subjected to a suite of over 100 tests and a user survey to ensure the system accuracy and stability. The software performed well and fulfilled all its functional requirements including registration of students, tracking payments, attendance tracking, etc. It is our belief that this software when deployed will bring a much-needed improvement to the efficiency and performance of the educational sector in Nigeria and the world.
