ABSTRACT

The number of traffic accidents today is increasing drastically as the year goes by, being an unpredicted and unintentional (most of the times) event. This system ensures that the occurrence of such events be reported promptly for the treatments of individuals involved. Most of these traffic deaths occur due to a slow response time by medical care providers and emergency management authorities. The chances of survival of an accident victim could increase drastically if immediate medical assistance is provided at an accident location. This system aims at providing early detection of accidents and communicating the information immediately to the emergency so as to improve the response time.

The system consists of two parts, the wireless embedded system and the IoT platform, different electronic sensors and modules like GSM module (SIM800l), GPS module (NEO-6M), accelerometer (ADX335), shock sensor, microcontroller (Atmega328p) etc. were used to implement the wireless embedded system. The accelerometer and the shock sensor were used to detect crash, GPS module for receiving the location of the vehicle and finally the GSM module for connecting the device to the IoT platform. The IoT backend and frontend were implemented using JavaScript frameworks while MongoDB database was used for the creation of profile and a database of hospitals rendering ambulance services.

The system continuously sends some values; latitude, longitude, state (from accelerometer and shock sensor) to the IoT platform. Once these values deviate from the reference values, an alert (details of the vehicle) is sent to the nearest registered hospital with the location and id of the vehicle for easy and faster tracking. This system makes sure that prompt help is provided to the victims of road accident.
