ABSTRACT
A university with accurate and updated database of her students will face less crime, exam malpractices and other vices. Imagine a university where students know their faces and personal details are kept by the school authority and her security agencies, the students will maintain peace and order as he/she knows any crime committed by him/her will eventually lead to his/her arrest once his/her picture is captured by a secret camera. Faced with the numerous security challenges facing universities such as the University of Benin, this study developed a computerized system where faces are captured and stored in the database for retrieval and recognition purposes, should in case need to be identified.
In this project work, a face recognition system was designed to provide a strong security to the university in her work environment and minimize vices. The technological approach of the system is based on open source solution. The system is implemented on a Window 10 Operating System platform. Apache Web server, XAMPP with extend support for PHP and MYSQL was used to run on a local host server. The application has a potential of identifying graphical images uploaded to the system for identification as long as the system is updated with the face prior to retrieval of information.
