ABSTRACT

Electronic marking during assessments is a crucial activity in any academic institution, as it directly impacts the accuracy and efficiency of the grading process. So far, manual methods employed, such as paper-based exams and manual grading, have proven to be inadequate, extremely time-consuming, and labour-intensive, amongst other disadvantages. This project emphasizes the need to adopt more automated methods of marking OMR sheet during assessments, including digital OMR recognition systems and online grading platforms. Taking into consideration the constraints and scope of the project, which is the development of an electronic OMR marking website, the method proposed by this project is a Web-based OMR Marking System. This project focuses on the design and implementation of a userfriendly and efficient online platform where lecturers can upload OMR sheets, and the system automatically marks and grades them, providing instant results and detailed mark sheets. This project utilizes the Object-Oriented approach to system analysis and design; use case, class, and state machine diagrams were used to represent designs for the system architecture. These designs served as the framework for the system, which can handle the whole process of OMR marking, from sheet upload to providing a detailed mark sheet for the various assessments.
