DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ANDROID BASED DICTIONARY APPLICATION USING THE IGBO LANGUAGE AS A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

The scarcity of Igbo dictionaries in libraries and bookstores highlights a significant gap in resources for the Igbo language. Despite their crucial role in education, the few existing Igbo dictionaries are often inadequate. This neglect poses challenges for both Igbo students and non Igbo speakers. Unlike Hausa and Yoruba, which have numerous dictionaries, Igbo remains underserved. This paper advocates for developing comprehensive Igbo dictionaries and proposes an Android dictionary application using Kotlin and XML. Designed for Android smartphones, the app will enhance language proficiency by providing a vast database of English-Igbo word meanings
