DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB-BASED STUDENT FEE PAYMENT SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT, UNIVERSITY OF BENIN, BENIN-CITY, EDO STATE)

ABSTRACT

The Department of Computer Science, University of Benin, Benin-City has a large number of students who pay all their departmental dues through cash deposits and bank tellers to the department account at designated bank branches. These methods of paying fees have not been efficient enough especially during this period of the Covid-19 pandemic. This physical method of paying fees is characterized with lots of problems such as long queues in designated bank branches, too much waiting by students and congestion at the banking hall where payments are made which in turn leads to time wastage and even increases the chances of the student to be exposed to the Covid-19 pandemic. The crux of this project work is to develop a Web-based payment fee system for students of this department to make payments for departmental dues with ease and convenience. With this proposed Web-based system, a student can just access the web page using a web browser on his/her computer and an Internet connection. The student can as well download his/her payment receipt as a proof of payment. This system tends to eliminate the problems associated with the physical method of fees payment in the department.
