ABSTRACT
The smart waste bin is an innovative solution designed to enhance hygiene and convenience in waste disposal systems. This intelligent bin utilizes an ultrasonic sensor to detect the presence of a person approaching, triggering an actuator mechanism to automatically lift the lid. The primary objective of this technology is to minimize physical contact with the bin, thereby reducing the risk of contamination and the spread of germs.The ultrasonic sensor, strategically positioned at the front of the bin, emits high-frequency sound waves and measures the time taken for the echo to return after hitting an object. When a person comes within a predefined proximity, the sensor sends a signal to the microcontroller, which then activates the actuator. The actuator, typically an electric motor, raises the lid of the bin, allowing the user to dispose of waste without touching the bin. After a short period, the lid automatically closes, ensuring the waste is securely contained.This smart waste bin is particularly beneficial in public places, healthcare facilities, and households, where maintaining cleanliness and reducing germ transmission is crucial. The system is designed to be energy-efficient, with the actuator consuming power only when in operation.
