ABSTRACT
The rate at which technological solutions are evolving is very thrilling. All over the world, new and more compact and flexible systems are being designed and developed to solve problems and the internet has made it very easy to develop such systems. It is with this evolution of technologies that the use of smartphones and other types of portable, hand-held computing devices such as tablet computers have become widely used most often in various aspects of life such as education, entertainment, communications, commerce and so on.
It is with this surge of technology in mind that a responsive web application system for a shopping mall capable of reading barcodes and making payment for purchases online is developed. In order to develop the application, the waterfall methodology (which covers analysis, architectural design, application design and implementation, and analysis) was adopted. A model-view-controller (MVC) framework was efficiently utilized in designing and developing the system.
The developed shopping mall web application made it easier for shoppers who visit the supermarket will be able to scan barcodes of products on their own using the mobile application, generate bills for selected products automatically, and make payment for purchases. Moreover, administrative personnel of the shopping mall were able to create new products and generate their barcodes for inventory management.
