ABSTRACT

Students often struggle to remember the stipulated schedule or time of lectures due to one reason or the other, leading to missed classes and lagging behind in what the lecturer has taught the other students. The aim of this study is to design and implement a Lecture Reminder System to minimize this problem to an acceptable level by notifying students and lecturers of upcoming lectures. The Lecture Reminder System is a mobile application developed on smartphones for lecturers and 400level students of Computer Science, University of Benin, Benin City, with the service of reminding them about their lectures. Utilizing modern technological advancements such as mobile phones and web interfaces, this system offers a user-friendly interface accessible to both lecturers and students. The implementation of this system promises to foster enhanced communication, accountability, and academic performance in the Department of Computer Science, University of Benin. This project leverages JavaScript, ReactNative, and NoSQL as its major development tools, creating a robust and adaptable platform. ReactNative allows the system to deliver a seamless user experience across various devices, while NoSQL databases facilitate efficient data management. However, for the lecturers, the system provides a very friendly user interface for managing class schedules. After receiving a class notification, the lecturers have the ability to directly cancel a class within the application. Immediately a class is cancelled, the system automatically notifies all the students using the app, ensuring that they are promptly informed of any changes to their schedules.
