ABSTRACT
In Nigeria, as in many other third-world countries, the issue of blood donation poses a significant challenge, particularly within university communities. Several factors contribute to the difficulty of promoting and sustaining blood donation initiatives in Nigerian universities. There is a huge lack of awareness and education about the importance of blood donation and its impact on saving lives. This lack of awareness stems from limited access to healthcare information, limited infrastructure and resources within university campuses further hinder the process of organizing and facilitating blood donation drives. The project aims to design and implement a blood donation web application for students in the university of Benin to solve the challenges faced regarding the donation of blood in the university of Benin. The researcher conducted user studies to understand the needs of students willing to donate blood as well as students in dire need of blood donation services. Based on these insights, the project designed and built a blood donation web application. The project is made using web technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript and Bootstrap. for the front-end interface. It uses PHP and Mysql to handle all server-side logic. The results show a successfully created blood donation web application that is convenient and easy to use and also protects user data. The modern technology stack involved in the creation of the project and an easy-to-use interface provides users with a functional and user-friendly web application that aids in the donation and receiving of blood. The project contributes to the advancement of blood donation practices in the university of Benin and could lead to more universities across Nigeria adopting this technique for blood donation.
