ABSTRACT

The design and development of a motorized yam pounder for pounding yam is the foundation of this research project. The use of the mortar and pestle method of pounding yams led to the consideration of the investigation. This modification can help decrease the risk of food contamination from perspiration during pounding and also contamination due to splinters and wood residues. The goal of this project was to create a yam pounder that could be used to pound yam straight out of the cooked, peeled stage into a form that is safe for human consumption. In order to address the drawbacks of conventional yam pounding machines, the suggested design incorporates cutting edge engineering ideas. With its twin blades and synchronized hammering mechanism, it offers faster processing times and more effective pounding. Strong materials and components are used in the machine's design to ensure lifespan and durability, improving its appropriateness for both home and commercial use. The project is divided into several phases, such as design development, testing, prototyping, and conceptualization. Tests are conducted on prototypes to ensure that they meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements. Feedback is requested from stakeholders, such as end users and yam processors, in order to improve functionality and polish the design
