ABSTRACT

An oven is an enclosed chamber in which things are heated or cooked with various sources of energy.  Ovens provide heat at various temperatures within the chamber for the purpose of baking, in most ovens, there are uneven distribution of heat in the heat chamber. The to be baked will not cook uniformly, thereby leading to rejection of the item by the customer, baking of food or removal of moisture from food substance. There is need to create a heating chamber that will have a uniform heat distribution. Ovens are not easily mobile. In order to achieve this objective there is need of a device that can satisfy both needs.

The electric oven was fabricated from locally sourced materials which consist of the Main frame, electric coil heater, Temperature and Time control unit, and baking trays (wire gauze). The oven is designed and fabricated with external dimension of 400mm length x 400mm width x 500mm height made from galvanized steel and internal dimensions of 300mm length x 300mm width and 350mm height with fibre glass as insulator contained in a thickness of 50mm. The electric ring heater was positioned at the base of the oven with the electricity running in from a power source from outside. A sensor is connected at the back into the oven chamber with the cable connected to the temperature display and time control unit box.

The oven was tested and it operated at a maximum temperature of 250°C. this is seen as moderate baking temperature which is between the range of 160°C to 290°C as stated in the baking Electric matrix. As such it conforms with the normal acceptable standard for domestic baking of cakes. Testing revealed that the sample took an hour and 2minutes to bake at 160℃. The design and construction of the Oven cost Sixty-nine thousand, six hundred (69,600) naira.
