ABSTRACT
The main objective of this study was to design an automated batch process garrification machine and to make its use economical in terms of labour, time and energy requirement, thereby reducing cost of quality garri in our markets. A two level response surface experimental design/modelling was used in the investigation and quantification of the relationship between the operational and performance parameters of the machine, while desirability function optimization technique was applied to determine the optimal settings of the operating parameters investigated. The result of this performance analysis revealed Initial Moisture Content = 40% w.b, Final Moisture Content = 11.7% w.b, Mass of mash introduced into the fryer, mj = 12kg, Mass of garri obtained , mf = 7.7kg, Frying time, t = 25min, Throughput capacity = 20.35(TP)c(kg/hr), Functional efficiency, nf = 65.29(%).
