ABSTRACT

Painting is one of the surface finish operations which is done to a part to obtain a well-protected and decorative finish.. In industries such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing, achieving consistent and homogeneous paint mixtures is crucial for product quality and efficiency. Current methods for mixing paint often involve manual labor and are prone to human error, resulting in inconsistencies and wastage. A paint mixer was designed and constructed with the primary objective to combine all the paint components and their spatial distribution until a certain degree of uniformity is achieved. The machine consists of the following parts: the mixing vessel (i.e. a metal sheet cut and folded into drum) where the actual mixing is to take place, a shaft, five blade fixed to the shaft which does the mixing, feeding hole, tap and electric motor. The capacity of the tank is 50litters and was designed to be powered by an electric motor of two (2) horse power. The machine was tested and found to be functionally effective and it requires little or no skill to operate. The significance of this project lies in its potential to revolutionize the paint industry by significantly reducing production costs, minimizing material waste, and improving product quality. Additionally, the proposed machine has the versatility to cater to various paint types, sizes, and industries, making it adaptable to a wide range of applications.
