ABSTRACT
Students often struggle to track their academic progress, set realistic goals, and receive personalised advice, which can impede their educational success. To address this problem, there is a need for an Intelligent Academic Advising System that is easily accessible and readily available to serve as a student companion. This system is designed to help students of the University of Benin manage their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), set academic goals, and receive insights on their academic performance. The system, deployed as a Telegram web app, features a Telegram bot for user interaction, a React.js frontend for computing GPA and CGPA, and a Node.js backend with Express. It integrates with a MongoDB database to store students academic data. The project involved setting up the development environment, developing bot logic, and creating a user-friendly interface. The implementation of the system was confronted with challenges such as time constraints and resource limitations. This Intelligent Academic Advising System offers significant benefits, including real-time academic tracking and data-driven recommendations, enhancing the support provided to students in their academic journeys. Future improvements could include integrating machine learning analytics and integrating the system into the University official students portal. This would greatly enhance the system and ensure its long term usability and effectiveness.
