ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to design and build a photovoltaic (PV) system to power an abattoir at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Shopping Complex. The required load to be powered by the PV system is completely determined. Power-saving loads are selected to reduce the overall cost of the system. A maximum hour is chosen at night when the PV system would serve as backup before an alternative supply is put on. The suggested PV system is introduced in order to supply the predetermined load. Based on the required load, each component of the system is designed and sized. Finally, the overall PV system has been put into practice to power the necessary load. The system is operational and operates effectively.
