ABSTRACT

The design and construction of Automatic changeover switch for Benin Electric Distribution Company (BEDC)/ generator and inverter with phase selector acknowledges the need for adaptability to different networks and compliance with local regulations. It discusses the transformer's role in electrical energy transfer, the diodes for current direction control, capacitors for electrical charge storage, resistors for current regulation, and microcontrollers for monitoring and control. Prioritization is established for these sources, with the highestpriority source given precedence. A button and LCD circuit interface with the microcontroller, 7 allowing users to adjust source priority. Once priorities are set, the microcontroller selects the appropriate power source to supply the connected loads. The power supply setup consists of a 220-15V 2Amp transformer, a bridge diode, capacitors, and voltage regulators to ensure stable voltage levels. The AC sensor circuit employs various components, including a transformer, bridge diode, capacitor, resistors, and a Zener diode, to accurately measure AC voltages. The system also incorporates relay units controlled by NPN transistors, enabling the switching of multiple appliances. Rigorous testing of circuit sections, including power supply, buttons, LEDs, LCD, relays, and controllers, confirms the robustness and reliability of the components. This discussion underscores the pivotal role of an automatic changeover switch with a phase selector in modern electrical systems, with recommendations including the addition of proactive alarms, diagnostics, and exploration of remote monitoring options for enhanced efficiency and usability.
