ABSTRACT
This project focuses on the design and construction of an Automated Teller Machine Terminal which features a fingerprint recognition system as opposed to the traditionally used PIN code. The objective is to enhance security and convenience for the user in carrying out banking transactions. The methodology involved in carrying out the design consists of reviewing literature on ATM terminal design and other related works, selecting appropriate components and materials to be used for the various modules in the project, designing a prototype in accordance with the circuit diagrams and components previously selected, carrying out programming of the software used by the microcontroller and testing the prototype. The projects results indicate a success in designing a prototype for the aforementioned system which was able to perform its’s function of dispensing cash while relying on biometric authentication as opposed to card based/ PIN based methods of authentication.
