ABSTRACT
The project was on the design and construction of automatic changeover system with inherent features. This device is capable of changing over from utility power to generator power with specific time delay(time taken to start the generator when utility power fails is 10seconds, time taken to changeover to GEN power after generator has started is 14seconds, time it takes from restoration of power to measurement of voltage and finally changeover is 10 seconds, time it takes to turn off the generator after changeover has been done to turn off the generator is 9 seconds).It provides other inherent features that makes the system more interfaced with our activities and brings less fatigue.
Some of such inherent features includes, automatic turning on and off of the generator system, alarm systems that indicates or signifies situations like; turning on the system when utility power is interrupted, when utility power is restored, when the generator did not start and when the generator did not stop. The system also measures the utility voltage and displays it on a 16x2 LCD screen and if the voltage is within our set limit (170V – 240V) it changes over back to utility supply, if not it doesn’t changeover, but the alarm still sounds this serves as a protective medium for the system against under or excess voltages.
