ABSTRACT

An automatic changeover switch with phase selector has been developed to enable seamlesstransitions between the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), solar, and generatorpower sources. In a world increasingly reliant on diverse energy sources, the device offersapractical solution to power source management challenges. The methods employedinconstructing the switch involve the use of relays, microcontrollers, and a sensor circuit consisting of a transformer, capacitor, bridge diodes and zener diodes as main componentsofthe system. Integrated within the automatic changeover switch are user interface elements, including buttons, a liquid crystal display (LCD), and light emitting diode (LED) setups. TheLEDs serve to signify various device status, the buttons facilitate user settings andconfiguration, while the LCD communicates the active power source and its respective output voltage. Extensive testing validates the functionality of the power supply, LEDandbuttoncircuits, relay system, and microcontroller-based control unit. The device enhances powerreliability in residential, commercial, and critical infrastructure settings, providing a reliableand adaptable means of managing power sources while promoting energy convenience.
