SUMMARY
This study was concerned with demobilization and resurgence of violence, and focused on the Niger Delta region. The study formulated and answered the following four research questions: 1) What is the nature and major flaws in the demobilization measures? 2) Is the perceived neglect and inadequate development of the Niger Delta region a major cause of the resurgence of violence in the area? 3) Does the resurgence of violence in the Niger Delta region have huge implication on sustainable development in Nigeria? 4) What policy approaches is capable of bringing lasting peace to the region? The research further reviewed related literature on the concepts of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, and violence. It carried out aconceptual review ofthe challenges in the Niger Delta region, militancy and violence in the Niger Delta region, the demobilization strategy and its flaws, and implication of the resurgence of violence on sustainable development in Niger Delta region and Nigeria in general. It employed the frustration-aggression theory for its theoretical discourse. The study employed the questionnaire instrument for gleaning field data. The research questions were later answered with the result of statistical analysis of field data and relevant literature.
