ABSTRACT
Breast cancer remained the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Despite mortality from breast cancer in Africa being higher than in high income countries, breast cancer has not been extensively studied in the region. There is the issue of ignorance of women in Nigeria about breast cancer who believe that symptoms would normally accompany the emergence of breast cancer in individuals as it is the case in malaria and other related sicknesses. Many women reported that they did not think about the high risks involved in breast cancer since there were no signs and symptoms. However, increased survival has been attributed to the dramatic advances in the screening methods, early diagnosis, and breakthroughs in treatments. This study is part of early diagnosis which is key to the survival of breast cancer patients. The application was developed with matlab. It enables patients to interact with the system and respond to questions that relates to signs and symptoms of breast cancer. When the output from the program is above the stipulated threshold, the suspected breast cancer patient is referred to a doctor for prompt attention.
