ABSTRACT

The goal of this paper is to explore the challenges, trends, and innovations in healthcare database systems, medical family illness records, and healthcare informatics in Nigeria. The study aims to establish a state-of-the-art genomic health initiative in Nigeria, leveraging a comprehensive database for medical family history as the cornerstone. This study will explore the integration of genomic data into clinical practice, including the development of decision support tools, guidelines, and protocols for healthcare providers. The methodological framework employed for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing a centralized database system for managing family medical records in Nigerian healthcare facilities holds immense potential for improving patient care, enhancing disease surveillance capabilities, and supporting evidence-based policymaking.
