ABSTRACT
This study, which is the cytomorphological study of Thaumatococcus daniellii, is aimed at studying the morphology of T. daniellii at the cellular level. It involves the evaluation of the stomata of T. daniellii, which was found to be paracytic. The study was carried out at the Predegree Lab of the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin. Review on T. daniellii also found the plant to be useful to the indigenous people of West Africa, with the leaves used for wrapping cooked food such as cooked rice, ‘moimoi’, goat meat etc. The fruit is also useful, especially in the food and beverage industry, as contain thaumatin, a sweet calorie-free protein which is used as a sweetener.
