ABSTRACT
In the context of traditional medicine, the Acanthaceae family harbors numerous medicinal plants that are integral to the practices of traditional medicines by traditional herbalists and even birth attendants in Edo state, Nigeria. This study delves into the field of cytomorphology, an investigative approach that examines the cellular and structural characteristics of this plant, using laboratory methods. By embracing this scientific views, the research endeavors to bridge the gap between age-old traditional knowledge and contemporary scientific comprehension. Through laboratory techniques, the study examines the complex cellular details of one of the Acanthaceae family's medicinal plants (Justicia carnea L.), offering an insight into its inner makeup and characteristics of this plant that may contribute to its medicinal properties. This pursuit can possibly verify the effectiveness of this plant in the context of health care and maternal care; a cornerstone of birth attendants' practices.
