ABSTRACT

This study investigates the inheritance rights of individuals born out of wedlock within the community of Amedokhian in Uromi, Edo State. A sample of 100 people from the community was surveyed to understand prevailing attitudes, legal frameworks, and socio-cultural practices regarding inheritance among individuals born out of wedlock. Findings suggest a complex interplay of customary norms, legal statutes, and societal perceptions, influencing inheritance rights and practices for this demographic group. The study sheds light on the nuances of inheritance dynamics in Amedokhian, providing insights for policymakers, legal practitioners, and community leaders to foster equitable inheritance practices and uphold individual rights within the communication.
