Images are the most popular cover files for steganography algorithms because of their large number of redundant bits that are suitable for the transmission of hidden information over the internet. This makes them ideal for embedding secret messages without raising suspicion. Among the various image formats, the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) is a prominent example that employs compression techniques. JPEG is the most widely used image file format on the internet, primarily due to its ability to significantly reduce file size while maintaining a relatively high quality. This compression not only makes JPEG images easier and faster to transmit but also makes them an excellent medium for steganography.
