ABSTRACT

Graphics Design is an art or profession of visual communication. Thus, it is essentially practical and could involve manual and traditional processes, such as; spraying, lithography, stencilling, printing and intaglio amongst many others. The term responsibility refers to the act of determining whether or not a person is responsible for his or her own actions. This necessitates the use of precision, calculations, and careful planning for each design project. The Graphic Section at the University of Benin Departments of Fine and Applied Art has only a computer space, which should cover only the digital aspects of graphic design. Therefore, the final year students of the graphic design section, decided to embark on crafting a studio workshop where the manual aspect of design can be carried out successfully. A workshop for artists, when bereft of the needed infrastructures will hinder creativity. The 400 level studio workshop in the Graphic Section in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts. It is on this singular premise that the 2021/2022 graduating students, decided to take up the challenge of building the studio workshop to make it more conducive for carrying out practical works. This will be done by providing the studio workshop with the required materials, such as furniture, light table, electrical fittings, ceiling fans, burglary proofs, re-painting, printing machines etc. It is hoped that when these facilities are put in place, the studio workshop will inspire as well as boost practical creativity both in the present as well as future graphic students in the Department.
