ABSTRACT

One of the socioeconomic illnesses that has ravaged Nigeria for many years is corruption, which has undermined almost every element of responsive governance and the effective provision of governmental services, especially in the wake of several epidemics and pandemics. The Covid-19 pandemic knocked everyone off balance, tested international health systems, and almost brought health systems in under-resourced nations to its knees. As a result of a pervasive absence of confidence in government institutions, many locals questioned the veracity of government efforts even as the virus spread. Public distrust is at an all-time high in a nation like Nigeria where government corruption is pervasive as a result of years of unfulfilled promises. Corruption has harmed the country's image, notably the shutdown, technical effectiveness, and correct distribution of relief items and vaccinations to the general public. One of the crucial aspects affecting the country's overall reaction to the epidemic was a decline in confidence caused by corruption. This research looked into corruption and its dynamics in Nigeria throughout the response to several illness outbreaks. The survey research method is used in this study, and information is gathered from both primary and secondary sources. The report indicates that corruption is a significant impediment to a efficacious response to the covid-19 epidemic. Corruption caused by the 2020 lockdown orders severely harmed the country's institutionalization of democracy in general. According to the report, more usage of cutting-edge technology will result in less money being embezzled.
