ABSTRACT

The study adopted survey research design. This research design is one in which a group of people or items are studied by collecting and analysing data from only a few people or items considered to be a representative of the entire group. The instrument used for data collection will be the questionnaire as this enables the researcher get to more respondents within a shorter time. The structured questionnaire will be used to save time, guide the respondents and limit vagueness. It was built around the research question by the researcher and validated by the supervisor. Data collected were analyzed using frequency count and percentages. The study was conducted in Ekiadolor community Edo State Nigeria. The population of Ekiadolor according to the 2006 census was 266,300 with 16,622 people aged 60 years and over National Population Commission [NPC], 2010. Some of the recommendations suggested as a result of the findings of the study that older people are especially vulnerable to social isolation, loneliness, and depression resulting in a significant effect on their health (Levkovich et al., 2021 & Balasundaram et al., 2021). The corona-virus outbreak has highlighted some of the barriers that the elderly has had to face, especially when it comes to the lack of access and inexperience to technology. To bridge this technological gap, the researchers recommend that programs should be launched to teach basic technological skills to the elderly.

Based on the responses of the respondents we found out that covid-19 has negative effects on the elderly. The findings summarized within this review suggest that older adults experienced negative outcomes related to the pandemic, and to a greater extent than their younger counterparts. There was indeed a correlation between old age and poor social interaction and poor mental health, higher anxiety, depression, and stress].
