ABSTRACT
Costume is a symbol of cultural representation of a particular people. A man’s culture can be ascertained from the way he dresses. This project examined the use of costume in different eras among the Igbo people. To achieve this, Franca’s creation costume exhibition was made where dresses of these era's were showcased for the purpose of education, documentation and entertainment. The aim was to give a visual understanding through pictorial representation. Literary methodology was employed to gather all necessary data to establish the theoretical background. The research concluded that costume and accessories are significant cultural elements for their preservation, identity and propagation. The research recommended the organization of regular fashion exhibitions to showcase traditional African attire so as to teach cultural history of the people to the younger generation.
