ABSTRACT

In African culture, costumes are essential communication tools that function as symbolic representations beyond clothing, particularly during festivals and festivities. This study aim to debunk myths and misinterpretations regarding the use of costumes by exploring the role of costumes as a form of cultural communication. The study of Lisabi Festival emphasizes the aesthetic and cultural significance of costumes of the Egba people. The study analyzes and collects data necessary for fully comprehending the use the role of costumes in cultural communication through of qualitative research methods, personal interview and pictorial evidence with literatures that are relevant to the study. The project reveals the many meanings concealed within the clothes used in the Lisabi Festival through observations, interviews, and cultural artifact analysis. Findings reveal that costumes are very powerful tools for communicating cultural symbolism and legacy. It is therefore recommended that the Lisabi Festival celebration should be promoted through variety of platforms, including media, education and proper documentation. By doing this, African cultural practices in general and the cultural history represented in the costumes of the Lisabi Festival can be preserved and honored for future generations. Thus, promoting a better knowledge and respect for other cultural traditions
