ABSTRACT
Igbo costume as a visual medium of communication is culture based. This research examines the Igbo costume with a case study of the Isiagu costume so as to determine how it reflects the cultural values of the Igbo people. The history of the costume is traced and the symbolic elements in the costume are analysed and examined. Findings revealed that the Isiagu costume is restricted to a gender, social rank as well as is reserved for special and specific occasions. This research use both the primary and the secondary methodologies. In conclusion, Igbo Isiagu costume serve as a visual representation of their values system, encompassing identity, unity, respect for ancestry, social status, community bonding, virtues, spirituality, and the preservation of cultural heritage.
