ABSTRACT

The study examined corporate social responsibility, financial constraints and tax planning in Nigeria. The objectives of this study is to examine the relationship between corporate social responsibility and tax planning, how financial constraints relates to tax planning, and if financial constraints moderate the relationship between corporate social responsibility and tax planning The population for the study consisted of listed companies in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX). Secondary data used for the study was collected from a sample of thirty (30) listed companies between the period of 2015 to 2020. The data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics and panel least squares. The results reveal that: Corporate social responsibility has a negative and significant relationship with tax planning in Nigeria; financial constraints has a significant and negative relationship with tax planning; and financial constraints does not significantly moderate the relationship between corporate social responsibility and tax planning. In line with these findings, the study recommends amongst other that appropriate measures and skill should be applied in determining appropriate mix of strategies to adopt for tax planning purpose.
