CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND FIRMS PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT

The study looked at how corporate social responsibility affected Nigerian manufacturing companies' performance. The study aimed to investigate the potential impact of distinct corporate obligations, such as environmental, social, and corporate philanthropic responsibilities, on the operational efficiency of Nigerian enterprises. The study adopted an ex-post facto research design. A total of three hundred and twenty -eight (328) listed companies in Nigeria formed the population, while ten (10) companies constituted the sample size of the study, based on the availability of data. The study will make use of secondary data gathered from the sustainability and annual reports, reputable databases, and publicly available financial statements of chosen traded manufacturing businesses on the Nigerian Exchange Group for a period 6 years, ranging from 2018 - 2022.The multiple regression approach was used to examine the hypothesis created for this study using SPSS, the statistical programme for social science. The method used was the ordinary least-squares estimation, given that the research uses both crosssectional and time series data.The study found that both corporate economic responsibilities and corporate environmental responsibilities had a positive relationship with financial performance of quoted manufacturing companies in Nigeria while corporate philanthropic responsibilities had a negative and significant relationship with financial performance of quoted manufacturing companies in Nigeria. The study recommended that In order to promote a transgenerational development for which future generations will not hold the current generation responsible, corporate organisations should urgently and critically integrate sustainable development practices into their corporate strategy by implementing environmentally friendly technologies and corporate practices with less detrimental effects on society and the environment.
