ABSTRACT

While at the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders, corporate social responsibility is the way through “Triple-Bottom-Line-Approach” companies achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives”, The CSR movement is spreading over the world and in recent years a large number of methods and frameworks have been developed. CSR practices can impact customer satisfaction, stronger brand equity and favourable attitude towards firms which in turn increase firm reputation and financial performance. CSR has become an integral part of business strategy for many organizations for addressing the social and environmental impact of company activities.The study examined the impacts of corporate social responsibility on firm performance among some quoted manufacturing firms in Nigeria. The study used secondary data on the following variables; return on equity, community service, donations, employment policies, profit after tax. 50 firms in the manufacturing industries in Nigeria economy sector was the population of the study. A sample of 30 firms randomly selected from the population was used for the study. The study applied data panel of the sampled firms in Nigeria from 2017 - 2021 using a Least Squares regression technique with the aid of E-views 9.0. Findings shows that corporate social responsibility have combination of positive and negative relationship with firm performance among quoted firms in Nigeria. Corporate social responsibility, community services, donations, employment policies and profit after tax have insignificant impact on firm performance. The study therefore recommends amongst others that the that the board of directors of quoted manufacturing should attach a high level of importance to policies concerned with community service and increase the amount expended on community services. Likewise a good periodical review and increased attention of employment policies could enhance the firm performance of quoted manufacturing companies
